Washing machine displays padlock

Last updated 12/10/2022 13:57

Issue

  • A padlock has appeared on the washing machine display and the buttons do not respond
  • How do I turn off the Child Lock in my washing machine?

Applies to

  • washing machine
  • washer-dryer

Resolution

1. The displayed padlock indicates that the "Child Lock" function has been activated.

2. With the child lock ON, you cannot perform any operations other than turning the device on and off with the control button/knob.

3. There are many different control panel configurations - different key combinations to activate/deactivate the lock

Usually, the child lock buttons will be highlighted on the control panel (example below). If they are not, refer to the appliance user manual

In some models, to disable the child lock, you need to press two buttons, in other models only one button for a few seconds.

4. If you have problems removing the child lock, disconnect the device from the power supply for about 5-10 minutes before trying again.

5. For devices with a program button, you can usually remove the child lock immediately after turning on the device.

6. For devices with a program dial, you may need to unlock it in the last program used, or go through each program trying to remove the parental lock.
